In a joint press conference after official talks with his Venezuelan counterpart, Felix Plasencia, Lavrov expressed his country’s rejection of the restrictive and coercive unilateral measures promoted against the South American nation by some nations.
The incumbent also pointed out Moscow’s support to Caracas’ proposal to create a group of like-minded countries that confront and resist such policies, aimed at mobilizing the international community against them.
In this sense, he said that progress has been made within the framework of the United Nations (UN) with the creation of the figure of the rapporteur in charge of analyzing the impact of such actions in the victim States.
He mentioned that this rapporteur recently visited Venezuela and presented an objective report on the negative impact of foreign sanctions on the life of the country’s population.
The head of Russian diplomacy acknowledged that in recent years, the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions imposed by these measures became the main challenges.
