UN Secretary General spoke with President of Mexico

United Nations, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, met the eve with the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and they analyzed the impact of economic inequality and corruption on development and peace.

Among other topics, they also spoke about efforts to address climate change and the global economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, indicates a statement from the office of the spokesperson for the United Nations head.

Likewise, the text adds, Guterres thanked Mexico for its support to the work of the multilateral organization in different aspects, including as a non-permanent member of the Security Council. López Obrador headed here on Tuesday an open debate of the Security Council on exclusion, inequality and armed conflicts.

In his speech in person before the 15-member body in charge of ensuring international security, the Mexican president denounced that the main obstacle to well-being, development and peace is corruption in all its expressions.

In addition, he rejected the harmful actions of unscrupulous transnational companies that multiplied his opulence and frivolity at the cost of looting poor countries.

The president of Mexico also criticized the neoliberal model, which encourages the excessive exploitation of natural resources and exacerbates inequalities.

Inequality is the cause of many of the armed conflicts that exist in the world, he said, and for this reason he called for the creation of a global fund for the poorest and most humble populations.

This fund, he explained, could be established with the resources of billionaires and G-20 countries.
