Beloved by our people, Abel is not only the lucid intellectual committed to Cuba, but also the thoughtful leader, a Cuban with a fine sense of humor, the brother one can always turn to. We, UNEAC members, love him, the president of that institution, Luis Morlote, wrote on Twitter.
For his part, Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso described Prieto as “one of our brightest and most beloved intellectuals, who has devoted his life to working for culture and the Revolution. A big embrace, brother,” he tweeted.
Moreover, the workers of the Jose Marti National Library congratulated Abel Prieto on his birthday.
As president of Casa de las Americas, the Cuban intellectual continues to actively defend the healing function of culture and regional integration and denounces the escalation of attacks by the enemies of the Cuban Revolution on social media.
In Cuba, Prieto led the artistic avant-garde for over a decade as former president of UNEAC, minister of Culture and president of the Marti Program Office and the Jose Marti Cultural Society.
