Venezuela guarantees cultural rights in times of pandemic

Caracas, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan government guarantees the exercise of cultural rights to the population, amid a scenario marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, said Culture Minister Ernesto Villegas.

Regarding the International Book Fair of Venezuela (Filven) in its 17th edition, Villegas highlighted the importance of having reached a stage of containment of the pandemic in the country that allows resuming the celebration of these events.

“We managed to advance in the necessary measures to overcome the pandemic, we have had it hard, but with the combination of collective conscience, health policies and international solidarity we have reached a moment that allows us to balance the rights to life and health with cultural rights,” the Minister emphasized.

Villegas recalled in an exchange with Prensa Latina in the Federal Legislative Palace of Caracas that the International Book Fair of the previous year was designed mainly for the online format.

However, on this occasion the overwhelming majority of the 800 registered activities are taking place in person, in addition to a balance between digital and printed literary proposals, with a hundred editorial novelties presented in the traditional medium.

“The Venezuelan cultural dynamics are up high this end of the year, a very favorable position for the advent of 2022, because by continuing this line we will be able to see a flourishing of the culture that is expressed in the cinema, music, plastic arts”, Villegas asserted.

The Minister added that it is very encouraging to be able to celebrate this literary fair, “whose very realization fills us with faith and hope in the Venezuelan people.”
