Russian-Syrian talks will be held over coming two days and a joint commission will be set up to complete the technical proceedings to produce the Russian vaccine in Syria, Mr. Sabagh said.

He specified that the production date depends on the delivery time of technical equipment, adding that the production process was initially passed to be rolled out at the state-owned company Tamico, close to Damascus.

The Syrian minister stated that advancing in Russia´s Sputnik V vaccine production in Syria has more than one dimension, the most important ones are politics and health.

According to the Syrian health authorities, only half a million people have been immunized, accounting for less than 5% of its population.

Syria is currently facing up the Covid-19 pandemic amid a stifling blockade imposed by the United States and the European Union, which affects, according to reports, the country’s fight against the disease.
