Cuban president favors sustainability to control Covid-19

Havana, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Sunday called for sustainability in the control of Covid-19, following the first day without deaths from this disease since April. During the meeting of the provisional working group to fight Covid-19 in Cuba, the president said the major challenge is to keep low figures just hours before resuming tourism and the school year.

At the meeting, Carilda Peña, deputy minister of Public Health, said the number of positive cases continues to decline because, on Saturday, 244 cases less than on Friday, were reported, that is an 11.9-percent decrease.

Regarding the immunization process, she reported that 202,000 vaccine units were administered on Saturday, 14,000 of which were booster shots in seven provinces of the country. Authorities from the 15 Cuban provinces reported the epidemiological situation in their territories, whose indicators have improved.

Other topics were also discussed at the meeting: the positive progress in the supply of medical oxygen, an update of the current situation of the national power grid and the activities for the 502nd anniversary of Havana.

On Monday, Cuba will reopen its borders to international travelers and will resume the path to normalcy after just over 20 months fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
