Cuba close to administering 30 million doses against Covid-19

Havana, nov 17 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Ministry of Health reported today 27 million 568 thousand applied doses of national anti-Covid-19 vaccines, another example of sustained progress in the process that began last May.

At least 10 million 94 thousand 401 people received a first shot against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, that causes the disease; while nine million 125 thousand 369 have the second; the third has been applied to eight million 348 thousand 811 citizens, according to the report revealed by the institution.

Eight million 807 thousand 998 Cubans have the complete vaccination plan with ‘Soberana 02’ or ‘Abdala’ and ‘Soberana Plus’, which represent 78.7 percent of the people (11.3 million), the Health Ministry added in the report.

As a first dose are counted those inoculated with Soberana Plus as a single dose, explained the ministry, which also carries out the administration of a reinforcement shot to health personnel, the Group of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries (BioCubaFarma) and others who are prioritized.

Director of Scientific Policy of BioCubaFarma, Rolando Pérez, recently explained that Cuban drugs have a plan consisting of three injections.

The reinforcement will not only allow to increase the number of memory cells, but also their quality, while enhancing antibodies with better neutralizing capacity, he stressed.

The application of this additional dose was approved by 27 countries, 12 of them from Latin America, and in this process other vaccines can be combined.
