The announcement was made during a meeting between Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, who is paying her first visit to this nation.

This close collaboration will help create sustainable, inclusive and competitive trade policies that will lift up our economies, Tai said in a statement.

Both nations also confirmed that they will work on solving the dispute over additional tariffs on steel and aluminum exports from Japan to the United States imposed by former President Donald Trump, according to the ministry.

The first set of meetings of the US-Japan Trade Partnership is expected to be held in early 2022, and the focus will be the concerns over third countries and cooperation to improve the economic order in the Indo-Pacific region.
