Philippines improves technological structure to boost MSMEs

Manila, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) The Philippine government announced today that it upgraded the technology services of its Setup program, which helps micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) improve competitiveness based on their level of development.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña said that under the Setup 4.0 Small Business Technology Upgrade Program, the entity’s interventions will now not only benefit individual firms.

We will also provide interventions at the industry level, ensuring that our priority sectors follow an established and targeted roadmap towards the transition to the fourth industrial revolution, he said.

He explained that MSMEs will be categorized according to their level of development, and the assistance that DOST will provide will be based on that category.

The most developed micro, small and medium enterprises will be led towards Industry 4.0, while the rest will be prepared for the transition to it in the near future, he added.

De la Peña said that enterprise-level strategies under Setup 4.0 include providing access to new technologies and innovations, providing technical, digital and other support, ensuring resilience and business continuity.
