Indigenous leader murdered in Colombia

Bogota, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) The National Indigenous Organization of Colombia on Monday repudiated the murder of the Nasa people's leader, Marcos Camayo, perpetrated this Sunday in Buenos Aires municipality, in Cauca department.

With this crime, the number of leaders and human rights activists murdered in 2021 amounts to 155, and 1,270 have been assassinated since the signing of the 2016 peace accord, according to data from the Institute for Development and Peace Studies.

Camayo, who was a political coordinator of the Çxhab Wala Kiwe Health Weave in 2014 and governor in 2004 and 2010, was riddled with bullets by unknown assailants on a motorcycle.

This is the second event of this kind occurred in a week against recognized indigenous leaders in Cauca region, Contagio Radio station reported.
