In the Santo Domingo square, near the San Geronimo University College of Havana, the organizers alluded to the memory of the historian of the City, Eusebio Leal, considered “father manager of this sculptural project and one of the main promoters of that European culture in Cuba”.

They also highlighted the medals of merit awarded to the Doctor of Historical Sciences by Italian authorities in recognition of his patrimonial work and at the head of the solidarity committees with the island in several Italian cities.

For his part, Italian Ambassador Roberto Vellano delivered the opening remarks at a round table entitled “The link between Dante Alighieri and Cuba”, where Cuban scholars analyzed the presence of Dante’s literature in the work of José Martí and the influence of the Florentine creator’s precepts in the field of Cuban literature.

Sponsored by the Italian diplomatic headquarters, the Ministry of Culture and the Office of the Historian of the City, the Week includes the presentation of the projects for the recovery of the Theater School of the University of Arts of Cuba, designed by Italian architect Roberto Gottardi.

Highlights include the celebrations for the centenary of the birth of filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini, the awarding of the Italo Calvino Novel Prize and the closing concert by the Camerata Romeu at the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi with works by Vivaldi and Ennio Morricone.

After the pause imposed by Covid-19, the event resumes on-site and online activities with limited seating for the public, who may attend by prior reservation and following biosecurity measures.
