In a statement, the VGN said that, with the establishment of the new structure of agents in localities, more forces will join the fight against the radical Islamist gang Boko Haram and armed criminals.

Regarding this proposal, already approved by the parliament, the head of VGN, retired ship captain Umar Bakori, expressed the need to intensify actions in northeastern and northwestern parts of this country, where terrorism, kidnappings, cattle rustling by the armed group Boko Haram are usual.

He also said they must strongly fight banditry and kidnappings of people in the central and northern regions of the country, as well as gangsterism, “cultism” and other criminal forms in southern regions.

The Vigilante Group, with a complementary role, provides the much-needed intelligence backbone to the police and armed forces, according to the statement.

Nigeria, an African oil-producing country, is being hit not only by the violent activities of armed bandits but also by Boko Haram and the Islamic State in the West Africa province, which operate in the northern part of this state.
