Moscow, Nov 25 (Prensa Latina) Russian Foreign Ministry´s spokeswoman María Zakharova on Thursday strongly rejected the new US measures in connection with the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, infrastructure that should improve Europe's energy security.

“The new sanctions by the US administration in connection with companies closely related to Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline already seem like a real obsession,” Ms. Zakharova told reporters.

The Russian spokeswoman noted that arguments about exclusively commercial nature of the work linking Russia and Germany through two pipelines below the Baltic Sea are well known and have been raised several times by Moscow, including to US authorities.

Ms. Zakharova talked about how Washington builds barriers to Russia´s energy resource export for European market, while it holds out its other hand to persuade producing countries to pump more and lower prices.

She stressed that behind such strategies are US politicians, not his people, “who, it seems to me, do not even realize how far the national interests of the United States are from what some representatives of the ruling political class are trying to do.”

According to the Russian spokeswoman, with the new US sanctions on Nord Stream 2, Washington forgets its allies´ interests and cares little about them.

In this regard, Ms. Zakharova stated that Russia remains unchanged and considers such unilateral measures to be illegitimate.
