In statements to Prensa Latina, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Planning, Roberto Rangel, explained that the Martí Project is a pilot initiative that is to be extended to the entire country.

Located in the province of Matanzas, the Global Action Project for Climate Change in Cuba: Municipality of Martí could become a Carbon Neutral Sustainable Development Model (AGCC), proposal that accompanies the country’s strategies.

It is, he said, a sustainable development project where the municipality becomes the center of its own management and is in line with the country’s strategy.

That is, these places have greater independence and are capable of directing their strategies and identifying potentialities, he said.

There are no limits to municipal development, he remarked.

Rangel recalled that each initiative of this type presented must have a solution depending on municipal capacities and national needs, without divorce.

The national strategy is designed so that each municipality manages its resources, and they are not in contradiction with national interests.

From there, to achieve results from the endogenous point of view, reverts to the benefit of the population of the municipality itself.

The AGCC proposes a modern sustainable municipality that becomes a life project for the inhabitants, and that people manage to satisfy their needs within the municipality.

The proposal promotes the sustainable development of the Martí municipality from a social, environmental and economic point of view

It contemplates, among others, a sustainable municipality with neutral carbon, as well as establishing a circular economy that allows taking advantage of the territory’s resources.

Approved at the end of 2020, the AGCC has the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and is funded by the European Union (EU).
