On the occasion of the 143th General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU), Yolanda Ferrer, president of the Commission of International Affairs at the National Assembly of Cuba, delivered a speech at NAM, reactivating here cooperation and exchange mechanisms. Ferrer thanked Azerbaijan for convening the meeting and said her country welcomes the creation of this NAM Parliamentary Network with satisfaction and interest.
Resulting from the 18th summit, held in Baku, with the goal of expanding and strengthening interaction, coordination and cooperation among us, the member of Parliament recalled the words of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who said then:
“The Non-Aligned Movement must take action to eliminate the unpayable foreign debt, which is a burden for our countries, and to lift the unilateral coercive measures some of us are subjected to, which, together with the Covid-19 socioeconomic effects, are jeopardizing peoples´ sustainable development.”
In her speech, Ferrer stressed that parliamentary diplomacy can be very useful “to defend the interests of the peoples we represent.”
