Relevant events such as the battles of Quifangondo and Cuito Cuanavale, on Angolan soil, are inscribed in the military history of both nations, the head of the Main Directorate of Patriotic Education of the General Staff of the FAA, Antonio de Jesus Fernandes, said.

It is “a source of pride” to take part here in a ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the founding of Cuba’s Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), the lieutenant general noted in his assessment of the permanent and unbreakable solidarity and brotherhood between the two peoples.

That internationalist deed took place in a complex context, marked by the Cold War between the great world powers at the time and the international thrust of the peace-loving forces and social progress, he considered.

Fernandes also recalled FAR’s origins and its victorious march to achieve freedom and self-determination for the Cuban people, under the leadership of the “great, courageous and visionary Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro”.

According to him, the celebration on December 2 of another anniversary of FAR is a propitious moment to thank and express “the profound tribute to the Cuban internationalists who lost their precious lives in Angolan territory, contributing to the liberation of our beloved Homeland.” jg/abo/mem/mjm
