Piedad Cordoba to denounce persecution during Colombia conflict

Bogota, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) Former senator Piedad Cordoba will submit today before the transitional justice system her second report on the political persecution of the Colombian opposition and will express her personal case about the ordeal she suffered because of it.

The renowned social activist will also make proposals to the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition to guarantee the rights of the opposition.

That instance, by virtue of the 2016 Final Peace Agreement, understood that the end of the conflict is built on the comprehensive reparation of the victims, establishing in its point five a Comprehensive System of Truth, Justice, Reparation and Non-Repetition.

As a victim, as an opposition political leader, an Afro-descendant woman of the left, and taking into account the mandates of the Commission, she will make her contributions to this instance.

She will show the practices and facts that constitute serious human rights violations and grave breaches of International Humanitarian Law, particularly those that reflect patterns or have a massive character, that took place during the armed conflict and the collective responsibilities of the State, Government, public authorities, the extinct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army, paramilitaries and others.

One of the elements contemplated in the report is the political exclusion of the regime as a basis for persecution.
