The head of state said yesterday before the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) that regaining the Russian Republic of Crimea should be the main goal and philosophy of Ukraine.

“This formulation means that the Kiev regime intends to use all available opportunities, including security forces, to invade that Russian region. This is how we tend to perceive it,” the official denounced.

Crimea became a Russian republic again after a referendum held on the peninsula in March 2014, following a coup that Ukraine suffered a month earlier.

In the vote, 96.77 percent of the territory’s voters and 95.6 percent of Sevastopol residents voted in favor of joining Russia, a vote that was not recognized by Kiev.

The Russian government has repeatedly stated that in a democratic manner the inhabitants of Crimea, in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter, voted in favor of reunification with Russia.
