On his Twitter account, the secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty, considered that the outbreak of the Omicron variant is the result of unequal access in the world to vaccines against the disease.
“Not vaccinating all vulnerable people in the world causes death and the extension of the pandemic. It is capitalism,” Llorenti tweeted.
During the 19th Summit of ALBA-TCP Heads of State and Government, held in June, the member countries of the bloc reaffirmed the need for urgent universal immunization against Covid-19 to ensure the equitable and humanitarian distribution of vaccines, supplies and equipment.
This week, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Omicron variant an issue of concern, since it has a number of mutations that could increase the risk of infection and trigger new Covid-19 outbreaks.
