“Lebanon is more important than me,” he said when he announced his resignation.

Kordahi denounced a campaign against him by the media in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.

In August, a month before taking office, the former television host described the war in Yemen as absurd and that Houthi rebels were defending from an attack led by Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh considered Kordahi’s statements offensive and responded with the withdrawal of its ambassador in Beirut. It ordered the removal of the Lebanese official and suspended Saudi imports from Lebanon.

Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait made the same decision than the Saudi government.

Moreover, France recently warned that if Kordahi remained in office, President Emmanuel Macron will not include Lebanon in a tour of the Middle East.

The resignation will not solve the dispute, according to analysts, because Saudi Arabia used the statements by the former television host as a pretext to pressure the Lebanese government against Hezbullah, which they consider a terrorist organization.
