WHO urges the world to prepare for Omicron spread

ómicron, enfrentamiento planes
United Nations, Dec 3 (Prensa Latina) The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday urged urged all nations not to panic over the emergence of the Omicron Covid variant as various countries ramped up measures to contain it, WHO made this call a month after South Africa and Botswana reported about first Omicron variant cases.

The UN health agency said it will be necessary to wait another two weeks to learn more about Omicron transmission, while scientists researched the new strain, even more contagious than Delta, according to preliminary data.

WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier stressed they opposes general travel bans, except in case of countries whose health systems cannot withstand an increased number of infections.

“It is better to prepare the hospital network and health systems of each country for possible cases. We are quite sure this new variant will spread,” he warned.

Delta mutation, called as “variant of concern” in summer, is now the one spreading the most around the world, Lindmeier added.

Let’s not be deterred and focus on getting as much information as possible to deal with this mutation, he explained.
