Conservatives ask the US for a tough stance against Russia

Washington, Dec 5 (Prensa Latina) Conservative sectors in the United States today demanded that President Joe Biden take a tougher stance against Russia despite warnings that intervention in the Ukraine crisis could be disastrous.

This Sunday Senator Joni Ernst (Republican of Iowa) called for more action, saying that President Biden has to be very clear, and very strong with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

The legislator advocated warning that the White House does not allow the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, a pipeline of vital importance for Germany and other European nations that receive gas from the Eurasian country.

Earlier this year Biden said he would not ask for the pipeline to be blocked, claiming it would damage relations with key European allies, but according to Ernst, there are many senators willing to act against that fuel line.

Democrats are concerned, Republicans are concerned, and what we don’t want is to allow President Putin to continue the pipeline, especially as he is preparing, perhaps, to invade Ukraine, she said.

Along these lines, Democratic Senator Chris Murphy (Connecticut) seemed to echo some of Ernst’s sentiments during his appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” program, although he expressed his hope that the next virtual meeting between Biden and Putin be “fruitful”.

The politician highlighted the association with Ukraine and declared that they will provide them with more military systems so that they can defend themselves, reiterating the reported aggressive plans against Russia by bringing threats closer to its borders.
