The Ministry said that the patient has been in isolation since his arrival in the capital, along with four close contacts, and that none of them has shown any symptoms so far.

The first case of Omicron was detected in a 38-year-old person who resides in San Luis province and attended a labor event in South Africa and returned home on November 30.

“The traveler presented a complete vaccination schedule and a history of Covid-19 in March 2021. A PCR test was made prior to the return trip to Argentina, where he arrived from the United States according to the established protocols, with a negative result,” the Ministry said.

In statements to the press, Health Minister Carla Vizzotti pointed out that all measures were taken after detecting this first case. “We still do not know if Omicron escapes the vaccines, but we do know that it is better to have the complete scheme,” she said.
