The arrival in the capital’s Air Force headquarters of the eldest son of former Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli took place under a tight security operation.
The operation took place nearly a month after Guatemalan authorities handed over his brother, Luis Enrique, who was accused of the same crime of corruption in the Brazilian construction company in Latin America.
They are accused of receiving 28 million dollars and were arrested in this capital on July 6, 2020, at La Aurora airport, as they were trying to reach Panama.
Unlike then, there was no official information to the press about the procedure, and together with Martinelli three other people wanted by the northern country traveled to the US.
On February 4 of this year, US justice accused them of five charges, including conspiracy to launder money and conceal the operation.
On November 16, Brooklyn Federal Court Judge Marcia Henry denied bail to Luis Enrique, who remains in a federal prison.
He will be sentenced on May 20.
