Syria condemns OPCW´s politicized work

Damascus, Dec 10 (Prensa Latina) Syria´s permanent representative to the United Nations Bassam Sabbagh branded the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) actions on certain countries as politicized and impartial.

Syria regrets OPCW has become a platform used by one power or group of nations aimed at attacking certain States, the Syrian diplomat said in a speech at a UN Security Council (UNSC) session.

He called the OPCW investigation and identification team´s action in the alleged 2018 chemical attack in Douma, near Damascus, as shameful.

This team was created illegally with the sole purpose of using it as a sword to undermine certain countries who strongly reject hegemony policies, he said.

On the other hand, Mr. Sabbagh condemned that the United States continues to provide a defensive umbrella to Israel and its vast arsenal of various weapons of mass destruction (WMD), preventing turning the Middle East into a zone free of nuclear weapons and mass destruction.
