European lawmaker denounces attempts at hindering Cuba-EU dialogue

Strasbourg, France, Dec 16 (Prensa Latina) Portuguese MEP Sandra Pereira on Thursday described the new resolution promoted against Cuba in the European Parliament as an attempt at obstructing the normalization of relations between Cuba and the European Union (EU).

They can change the name of the debates or the title of the resolution, but the objectives are the same: interfering in this process framed in the Cuba-EU Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement and questioning Cuba’s development, achievements, sovereignty and independence, she warned.

Pereira questioned that for the third time in its last six plenary sessions, the European Parliament has addressed alleged human rights violations, which she also attributed to the attempt at hiding the impact of the United States blockade against Cuba, a policy by Washington that she described as contrary to the United Nations Charter and human rights. The parliamentarian from the Left-wing GUE/NGL Group defended dialogue and cooperation between Cuba and the EU, with equal rights, mutual respect and without interference.

We demand once again from here the end to the criminal blockade and we express our solidarity with the Cuban people, an example of sovereignty, resistance and struggle, she stressed.
