In his Twitter account, the Venezuelan foreign minister denounced that this regional body insists on using the Human Right issue in that Caribbean nation as a political instrument.
Plasencia’s statements come after the European organization once again submitted the situation on the island for debate this Thursday, in addition, in a reiterative manner, because in the last three parliamentary sessions the same issue has been discussed.
According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the European Parliament is analyzing the alleged situation of a minority of Cuban citizens who seek to subvert the internal order and destabilize the country at any cost.
In this regard, the Foreign Ministry of that country pointed out that “Cuba is the only country in Latin America and the Caribbean about which there has been so much discussion (…) it shows the manipulation of the issue of human rights and the double standards of those who use it with a markedly political background”. He condemns the fact that none of the latest resolutions approved on the island has the minimum decency to mention the impact of the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade, imposed by the United States for more than six decades, intensified in a genocidal and premeditated manner in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He stressed that if the MEPs were really interested in the human rights of the Cuban people, they would denounce in the first place the flagrant and systematic violation represented by the blockade, whose extraterritorial effects affect, in the same way, the interests of European companies and citizens.
