Peruvian president denies obstruction to prosecutors’ investigation

Lima, Dec 21 (Prensa Latina) Peruvian President Pedro Castillo denied the version that he obstructed the search of government palace offices by anti-corruption prosecutors.

The president walked six blocks between his headquarters and the Attorney General’s Office, where he was received by district attorney Zoraida Avalos.

There he expressed his decision to collaborate with the investigations into an alleged case of collusion to favor a company in the bidding for the supply of biodiesel to the state-owned company Petroperu for more than 70 million dollars.

At the same time, a press release from the Presidency informed that Castillo ordered that the corresponding facilities be granted for the prosecutors to carry out their work with total openness during the proceedings at the Government Palace and at no time did he order measures against the search.

In this way, he denied the newspaper version according to which he prohibited the search of the office of the Secretary of the Presidency, Carlos Jaico, citing a record of the fact.

On the other hand, the President’s lawyer sent a communication to the Attorney General’s Office in which he asked for a date and time to declare on the mentioned case and asked to separate prosecutor Luis Medina from the case for leaking part of the minutes of the search of the palace to the press.

In addition, the president accepted to be investigated by the provincial prosecutor on Corruption of Public Officials and requested the lifting of the secrecy of his bank accounts and tax information, as well as his telephone communications.
