Hundreds of US flights canceled on Christmas Eve due to omicron surge

Washington, Dec 24 (Prensa Latina) United, Delta and other US airlines have canceled nearly 600 Christmas Eve flights as a surge in omicron variant of Covid-19 cases impacts their staff, the airlines said.

The world´s largest flight tracking platform FlightAware reported that Delta Air Lines cut 127 flights on Friday, while United Airlines cut 169.

According to a United memorandum, cited by CNN, the increased omicron infections this week “had a direct impact on our crews and people who run our operation.”

However, millions of citizens harp on their Christmas Eve trips in spite of the increased Covid-19 cases reported nationwide.

FlightAware reported about 2.19 million people in airports across the country, the highest number since the rebound in trips for Christmas Eve in the last seven days. mh/pll/mgt/dfm
