In statements to the Oslobodenje newspaper of Bosnia-Herzegovina, he reiterated that Moscow and Washington have the largest nuclear arsenals and therefore bear a special responsibility for the strategic security of the planet.

The official recalled that, in accordance with June 16 agreements in Geneva between the two countries’ presidents, a mechanism for consultations on strategic stability was set in motion, which resulted in two meetings, and the information security talks were resumed.

However, the Foreign Minister pointed out that the White House policy towards the Eurasian nation creates a “toxic” atmosphere in bilateral relations that hinders the establishment of calm and professional communication.

At the same time, he called Washington’s policy toward Moscow “unfriendly,” which is evidenced, he said, through its sanctions and unfounded accusations, among other hostile steps.

In another part of the exchange, Lavrov stated that the line taken by the Ukrainian government to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) creates the possibility of the appearance of attack missile systems near Russian borders, which is an unacceptable threat to Russia’s security.
