Dominican sport performed well in 2021

Santo Domingo, Dec 26 (Prensa Latina) 2021 was full of good performance by Dominicans, including at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

During the Olympics the Dominican Republic surpassed the forecasts by winning five medals in total; silver medal for runner Marileidy Paulino in the 400 meters. She also made up the team that won the silver in the mixed 4×400 relay, and weightlifter Zacarías Bonnat, as well as the two bronze ones won by the baseball team and weightlifter Crismery Santana.

These results earned the country 12 medals in the Olympics overall, the first being the bronze obtained in Los Angeles-84 by boxer Pedro Nolasco, earning the Dominican Republic the 46th place in the medal table.

The other outstanding performance this year was the 13th place won by the Quisqueyans in the Youth Pan American Games, an event in which they won five gold, eight silver and 10 bronze medals, for a total of 23.

Judo earned the country eight medals, followed by athletics (five), then weightlifting and wrestling (three).

There were also medals for gymnastics, boxing and women’s 3×3 basketball.

The performance of the volleyball players, who won the Norceca Continental Championship in Guadalajara, Mexico, is also noteworthy, as well as the Pan American Cup played in Mexico last August.
