Syrian media reported that King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, enacted a decree that appoints Waheed Mubarak Sayyar as head of the diplomatic mission and ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Damascus.

This is the second Arab country from the Persian Gulf to appoint an ambassador to Syria after Oman, which did it in October, 2020.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister, Bashar al-Jaafari, recently revealed that 14 Arab embassies are open in Damascus, and just a few Arab governments oppose the normalization of relations with Syria, especially Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

According to analysts and media outlets, the current year was marked by an Arab approach towards Syria and this nation’s possible return to the Arab League at its next summit, which will be held in Algeria in March, 2022.
