Bolivia receives 1.9 million Moderna vaccines as Covid-19 cases surge

La Paz, Jan 1 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian government has just received a batch of 1.9 million Moderna vaccine doses to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, an official source reported Saturday.

According to Bolivia´s Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Benjamin Blanco, the arrival of the new batch was achieved thanks to the COVAX mechanism.

In talks with Bolivia TV, Mr. Blanco enlightened the donation was sent by Spain and Germany so as to reinforce Bolivia´s domestic vaccination campaign.

“With this new batch, we reached more than 22.5 million doses, quite enough for 100% of Bolivia´s population aging over 5,” Mr. Blanco stressed.

On Friday, Bolivia´s Health and Sports Ministry reported more than nine million people had been immunized up to December 31, of which 835,883 aged 12 to 17, and 213,300 are children aging 5 to 11.

The ministry also stressed that Bolivia in 2021 invested about $78.8 million in medicines, supplies and equipment for halting and fighting the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
