According to Alden Rivera, operations director of the Honduran Maquila Association, the number of workers linked to this area exceeds 180 thousand, exports exceeded five billion dollars and 2022 presents a favorable scenario for the multiplication of operations.
According to the official, the industry has concluded its reactivation process and foresees an increase in its production and, therefore, the supply of the global market, and reported that next year they are planning an investment of between 400 and 600 million dollars for the incorporation of new plants.
Rivera said that these transformations will create sources of employment and other benefits during the period 2022-2024 and mentioned the positive vision and the great expectations of the maquiladora platform with the arrival of Xiomara Castro to the presidency of the Central American nation.
In his opinion, the transfer team of the representative of the Libertad y Refundación (Libre) Party values the possible increase of this industry and, after several meetings, its members promised to accompany the promotion and development of the sector from the executive.
The small entrepreneurs also expect the simplification of administrative procedures and the generation of fiscal conditions, aimed at the progress of the productive structure, also impacted by the occurrence of natural phenomena such as hurricanes Eta and Iota.
