This is the fourth batch sent by the Asian giant to support the health sector and the national immunization plan against the coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, said Minister Hassan al-Ghobash, after signing the act of receiving the shipment.

He thanked China for this gesture and considered that it reflects the strong relations between Damascus and Beijing.

In turn, the Chinese ambassador in Damascus, Feng Biao, said that this donation responds to the commitment made by President Xi Jinping during his recent telephone conversation with his counterpart Bashar al-Assad, to help Syria to recover from the war and face the pandemic.

According to health authorities only 700 thousand people were immunized against Covid-19.

During the last week the reported daily numbers of new cases decreased to around 50, and the total number of infected people amounted to 50,337, deaths to 2,905 while 32,761 recovered from this disease.

Syria is facing the Covid-19 pandemic in the midst of a suffocating blockade and severe sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union, which prevents the import of necessary medical equipment and health supplies.
