A presenter and columnist of the Globo media group, Leitão warned that the president is already questioning the result of the election by calling it “polarized.”
This way, she said, Bolsonaro is seeking to justify his very low popularity and his great disadvantage running against Lula for the coming election, according to a dozen polls in December.
However, the journalist recalled that the president has the State machinery in his favor including influential media and the subordination of ministers and military chiefs who are willing to tip the scales in his favor.
Leitão pointed out that, unlike previous elections, this year’s election seems to have an early result since all polls point to Lula as the winner with an average 48-percent support.
However, she clarified, thinking that all is final would be a mistake and pointed to the institutionality of the State as the biggest threat to the materialization of a victory by the representative of the Workers’ Party.
In this regard, she recalled the president has repeatedly threatened democratic institutions, the electoral process, the Supreme Federal Court, the National Congress (bicameral parliament) and governors with impunity.
