The Narrative and Dramatic Thinking Workshop, taught by master Francisco Lopez, will open the theoretical sessions scheduled from Jan.10-14, while the Vicente Revuelta Cultural Complex will host several tributes to this essential figure of the Cuban stage.
The presentation of the books “El juego de mi vida: Vicente Revuelta en escena” (The game of my life: Vicente Revuelta on stage) and “Las sorpresas de la memoria” (The surprises of memory), by researcher Esther Suarez, will stand out.
The 3rd National Workshop on Press, Humor and Identity will also take place in the context of Jornada Villanueva, will be directed by the Center for the Promotion of Humor and will be held from Jan.20-21 at the Jose Marti International Journalism Institute.
Other important moments will be the dramatized readings of the play “Verdeyerba” (Green grass), written by Christian Medina, by members of Teatro Retablos; as well as “Amelia sueña mariposas” (Amelia dreams of butterflies), by Erduyn Maza, which will be performed by La Proa Theater group at its main venue.
The presentation of the Villanueva Critics Award, together with the official ceremony of the 2021 National Theater Award, granted to actor Dagoberto Gainza, will close the event’s extensive program.
The events of the capital’s Villanueva Theater occurred on Jan.22, 1869. It was a bloody attack perpetrated by the Spanish volunteers against Cubans who supported independence; years later, that date was chosen to celebrate theater.
