On Twitter, the official called on the 607,000 voters registered in this western state to exercise their right to vote.
For this Sunday election, the CNE activated 543 voting sites with a total of 961 polling tables, distributed in 12 municipalities and 54 parishes of the state.
The election of the governor of Barinas is being held after the decision of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ, in Spanish) of repealing the results of the election for this government position held on Nov.21, due to irregularities in the process.
The candidate of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV, in Spanish) running for state governor, Jorge Arreaza, urged the population to go to the polls to “make history and vote for the future.”
“Every vote is an expression of the will and commitment to participatory democracy and love for this country. Let us vote as a family, as a community,” Arreaza tweeted.
Over 8 million Venezuelans voted in the Nov.21 election to elect 23 governors, 335 mayors and members of regional legislative and municipal councils.
