Berlin, Jan 9 (Prensa Latina) The new outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has worsened in Germany as 36,552 new positive cases were reported on Sunday, well higher than the 12,515 number of cases of a week ago.

Therefore, the accumulated incidence in a week amounts to 362.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a number higher than the 335.9 cases detected on Saturday and the 222.7 ones of a week ago, according to the Robert Koch Virology Institute who quoted by Deutsche Welle.

On the other hand, the rate of hospitalized patients stood at 3.5 per 100,000 people on Sunday; meanwhile, 15.1 percent of patients in intensive care units was infected with the SARS CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.

The surge in new cases in the nation is due to the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, whose incidence rose during Christmas and New Year’s holidays, local television reported.

Since March, 2020, Germany has reported 7,510,436 positive cases, and barely 70 percent of the population has been vaccinated.
