“The talks began in order to receive specific answers to concretely formulated fundamental questions. And controversies were observed on those fundamental questions. This is bad,” the official said, TASS news agency quoted.

He noted that both the meeting between Moscow and Washington delegations in Geneva last Monday and yesterday’s Russia-NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Council in Brussels had positive elements, but not on the issues for which the negotiations were convened.

He assured that in his country there was never a lack of political will to continue the exchange, when the same did not happen with the counterparts.

The Kremlin press officer said he had no doubt that there would be no shortage of political will to continue the negotiations on the security commitments presented by Moscow, but warned that they should be on fundamental issues.

“There cannot be a process for the sake of process, it must be summarized in a specific outcome, a specific response,” he said. Russian officials have reiterated that they expect concrete and quick results on the proposals presented to Washington on December 15.

Peskov said that his country hopes that the United States will be able to present “some document in the next few days” regarding both rounds of talks. In his remarks, he stressed that NATO cannot tell his country how and where to deploy its military forces on the national territory.
