Mexico repatriates 102 irregular migrants to Cuba

México, Cuba, devolución, migrantes
Havana, Jan 14 (Prensa Latina) Mexico recently returned 102 irregular migrants to Cuba by virtue of agreements signed between the two nations on this issue, authorities confirmed on Friday.

With those who arrived on January 11 at the Jose Martí International Airport in Havana, 31 women and 71 men, 289 people have returned home in five operations carried out this year.

These individuals are Cuban citizens who left the country legally and joined the irregular flow to the United States in Mexico, the General Directorate of Identification, Immigration and Aliens (DIIE) explained.

According to the source, in 2021, 71 such operations were carried out, 58 of which were by sea from the United States, and 13 by air from various countries, totaling 1,580 Cubans who returned home.

Upon arrival in Cuba, the returnees passed rigorous health and customs controls and were transported to their provinces of origin.

The DIIE reiterated Cuba’s commitment to efforts to maintain legal, orderly and safe migratory flows, and denounced the hostile policy of the United States, which encourages this activity through provisions such as the Cuban Adjustment Act and obstacles to visa processing. .
