USA: 17 mass shootings already this year

Washington, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) The United States has reported 17 mass shootings so far in 2022, as confirmed by the independent organization The Gun Violence Archive.

The group, which collects data on incidents with firearms in the national territory, noted that the most recent event occurred the day before in the city of Eugene, Oregon, with a balance of six injured.

According to local media, the incident occurred last night at the entrance of WOW Hall, a concert hall in a community center in that town, where rappers Lil Bean and Zay Bang performed.

According to Eugene Police Chief Chris Skinner, one of the injured is in critical condition and commented that at the moment there are no arrests, but there is a suspect.

Last year, 20,658 people lost their lives in the United States due to firearm incidents and 691 mass shootings were recorded, according to statistics from the organization.

Other accounts revealed that deaths with such devices rose more than 24 percent in 2021 compared to 2019. In a message to the nation last June, President Joe Biden reported that he met with a bipartisan group of civilian and law enforcement leaders to discuss the best way to stop “the epidemic” that is bleeding the country.

The United States holds the sad world record for possessing more guns than people within its geographic boundaries.
