Cuba surpassed 1 million confirmed Covid-19 cases since 2020

Havana, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) Cuba surpassed today 1 million people confirmed with Covid-19 since 2020 (1,2,449), with 3,256 new cases reported today.

According to a television report by the Public Health authorities, in the first 16 days of January, 32, 720 people were diagnosed with SARS-CoV2, which causes the disease.

The increase in the number of cases is mainly due to the transmission of the Omicron variant, reiterated at a press conference the national director of Epidemiology, Francisco Durán, and warned abouth the situation in provinces like Camagüey, Mayabeque, Villa Clara, Artemisa, Las Tunas and Pinar del Río, territories with the highest numbers in recent days.

He also reiterated that pediatric cases also increased and the week up to Saturday 15, 4,390 infants were detected.

The epidemiologist detailed that in the last seven days 12 people died due to complications associated to Covid-19, seven more than in the same period of the previous year.

The day before, the death of one patient was regretted, bringing to 8,341 the total number of deaths in the country since 2020 due to this disease.
