“It is precisely the proof that justifies our concerns. And it is the proof that we are not the cause of the escalation of the tension”, the official said to the press, when making reference to the need for the recent negotiations on security guarantees among Russia, the United States and the Noth Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
At last week´s conversations, Moscow drew attention to the worsening politico-military situation in Europe, so it demanded the stop of the advance of the Atlantic Alliance towards East and the withdrawal of attack weapons that thread its territory from neighboring countries.
“We have too much tension in this part of Europe. And, of course, this means automatically more challanges. And this is why it is very dangerous for our continent”, Peskov said in statments published the day before by US television network CNN.
At Monday’s online briefing, he further said that his country does not believe that the United States should get involved in the discussion of Russian-Ukrainian relations, an issue that was on the table for talks with Washington last January 10, in Geneva.
According to Peskov, ties between the Eurasian nation and Kiev depend entirely on whether the implementation of the 2015 Minsk agreements for the achievement of a peaceful solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine can move forward.
He stressed that there is no progress in that area, so it makes no sense to include the United States in bilateral relations between Moscow and Kiev.
