Russian and Syrian military patrol port of Latakia

Damascus, Jan 19 (Prensa Latina) Syrian soldiers and members of the Russian military police began patrolling the commercial port facilities in the Syrian coastal city of Latakia, 390 kilometers northwest of Damascus.

Footages broadcast by both countries’ media showed several Russian armored vehicles patrolling the port complex that was twice attacked by Israel in December.

According to official sources quoted by Al-Watan newspaper, this presence is aimed at securing and protecting the port and deterring any aggression against its facilities.

Israel carried out two air strikes against the referred facility on December 7 and 27, 2021, resulting in huge material losses in containers and imported goods.

Syrian authorities considered that these aggressions by Tel Aviv are part of the economic war unleashed against this Arab nation by the United States and its allies.
