The cultural event will run until February 15 under the theme The light of life at the National Museum of Art and its exhibition is made up of 707 paintings, sculptures, installations and images by local artists and other 117 countries.
Cuba participates with the work Atletismo by Alfredo Sosabravo, one of the most important visual artists.
It is an acrylic on canvas where an athlete throws a disc while another one runs by as an allegory to the so-called “king sport”.
The opening of the Biennial was not very well attended, but in the coming days it will be open to more visitors and will also have a virtual exhibition.
This event was held for the first time in 2003 with works from 45 states, but since then it has grown significantly in number, consolidated as one of its kind with high recognition and also as a bridge between East and West.
The last edition was held in September 2019 and its central theme “A Multicolored World and a Shared Future” led to the display of 640 works that combined indigenous elements with diverse styles to highlight harmony among peoples and environmental care.
