Family Code contains issues of interest for Cubans abroad

Havana, Jan 21 (Prensa Latina) The draft bill of the new Family Code to be debated in Cuba from February to April will contain issues such as the flow of travelers and the transnationality of the Cuban family, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Friday.

Ernesto Soberon, general director of of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad Department at the Foreign Ministry, stressed in Facebook that due to their experiences on living in Cuba and in other societies, the Cuban residents abroad will make an important contribution to the debate of the legal body.

The Foreign Ministry noted that Cuban residents in more than 140 countries will be able to participating in the debate on the legal text by sending their opinions to the Nation and Emigration website.

The Ministry added that a similar experience was developed during the debate of the Constitution approved in April 2019, when opinions from more than 120 countries were received digitally, 40 percent of which were included in the final text.

All Cubans who wish to do so are expected to have the opportunity and possibility to express their opinions, as part of Cuba’s interest in strengthening its ties with its nationals overseas.

Cuba will submit the draft bill of a new Family Code to consultation, with the purpose of adapting the legal framework in force in the country to the social realities of the current family.
