Scheduled from July 7 to 10, the event will take place in the writer’s hometown, Camagüey, and it will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first publication of “La Rueda Dentada” and “El Diario que a Diario”, as well as the eight decades of his trip to Haiti.
In addition to the meetings to exchange on the aforementioned anniversaries, the event will encourage debates on the relationship among race, nation and society in Cuba and other American nations, including the United States and the Black Lives Matter movement, according to a press release from the Foundation.
The lectures, panels discussions and presentations will deal with the history and current affairs of Haitians and their descendants in Cuba, the impact of that country on Guillen’s work and thought, as well as on Latin American literature and art.
