Dominican Public Ministry appeals sentences of the Odebrecht case

Santo Domingo, Jan 25 (Prensa Latina) The Public Ministry of the Dominican Republic today appealed two of the sentences imposed in the Odebrecht case, one to former minister Victor Díaz, and another to lawyer Conrado Pittaluga.

In the case of Díaz, the court sentenced him to five years in prison and the prosecution requests on appeal 10, and for Pittaluga, who was discharged from the process, they request that he be found guilty and sentenced to seven years.

For the rest of those sanctioned, the Attorney General’s Office did not establish an appeal, so their sentences were ratified.

After the appeals to the court by the parties were made this Tuesday, they will be sent to the presidency of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeals of the National District, where Judge Julio César Canó, through a computerized random draw, will designate one of the three criminal chambers which will know the mentioned resources.

In the trial concluded on October 14 against the defendants in the case of the Brazilian construction company, only Rondón and Díaz were convicted.

Pittaluga, Andrés Bautista García, Tommy Galán and Roberto Rodríguez were acquitted, for them it was decided to lift the coercive measure against them and the cessation of all orders to freeze funds, as well as the cancellation of any opposition to their assets.

The defendants in the aforementioned trial were tried for receiving bribes from the Odebrecht company for the award of state works worth 92 million dollars.
