Covid-19 booster shot is being administered in Cuban province

Camagüey, Cuba, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) Nearly 96 percent of the population of Camagüey province have been administered a booster shot of Covid-19 vaccines, as part of a national strategy to curb the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Public health authorities in that central eastern province report that, after the arrival of some 300,000 booster shots in the past few weeks, the protection potential was expanded, mainly in the most affected municipalities.

“There has been a heterogeneous transmission in this region since early this year, and we estimate it will increase,” Reydel Peron, an expert at the Hygiene Center, said.

Calculations made by health professionals and experts from the University of Camagüey indicate that the number of Covid-19 cases has increased by around 400 percent compared to the last week of 2021.

“Therefore, health infrastructure has been activated again with adjustments both in medical facilities and procedures,” the doctor noted.

According to experts, vaccination is proceeding on schedule and will improve thanks to the progressive inclusion of those who have been fully vaccinated.
